ParsTasmim Enterprise Archiving

ParsTasmim in partnership with leading enterprise archiving software and hardware vendors provides Enterprise Archiving solution.
ParsTasmim solution for enterprise archiving is a comprehensive data access and information management solution specifically designed to administer massive amounts of structured and unstructured fixed content, historical data, and their associated backups. Our technology combines industry-leading, scalable storage devices and Open System processors with specialized storage management, file system interface, and relational database management system software components.
A number of trends are driving IT managers to rethink their strategies for data archiving and preservation. These include Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), industry-based compliance regulations, and the need for long-term, persistent archives. Until now, organizations have typically addressed requirements for long-term data preservation, media compliance (WORM), or archiving with stand-alone, application-specific, point solutions – each requiring separate storage components and devices. In contrast to these point solutions, ParsTasmim solution for Enterprise Archiving offers an expanded approach to data archiving by providing an automatically managed central hierarchy of storage devices accessible by many applications throughout the enterprise.

Enterprise Archiving

Our solution provides true enterprise wide archiving, compliance and ILM solution for both relational data (Oracle, SQL, and DB2) and flat file unstructured data (e-mail, documents, Images, mobile switch data, etc). One single platform can provide feature rich storage management platform for all of the company’s global ILM needs.  Provides true TCO savings against traditional storage systems. Not just hardware savings on storage but compelling savings can be made on front-end application savings (including storage management and licensing) with improved performance.  Hardware agnostic so preventing “lock-in” to specific hardware vendors thus allowing organizations to take advantage of new storage evolving over time such as those with reduced carbon footprint offerings.

The offered solution can move data across hierarchies of storage from fast disk, to less expensive slow disk (SATA), MAID, optical and tape.  The original production applications (eg Oracle) can still access this data through open standard database interfaces or file systems interfaces. So the solution will effectively ‘virtualizes’ all the storage under its control so the user/application does not need to know where data has been moved to by enterprise archiving system.

In terms of archiving versus not archiving then savings can be made with:

  • Keeping the production database lean by allowing the archive to grow as oppose to the production system.  There are significant savings on to be had on:
    • RDBMS licensing (eg Oracle)
    • Hardware Costs (CPU, high performing disk)
    • DBA Costs
    • Reducing storage management costs (by automating all the storage management for data under one control including for example backups, replication, data migration, ILM principles)
    • Significant reduction of the backup window on main RDBMS by keeping it lean
    • Increased performance on front end database

  • Knowledge Management – Ability to keep more data within the enterprise for longer that was considered prohibitively too expensive to keep previously.  Data can also be shared between environments
  • Centralized storage platform
  • And of course compliance…
Solution Advantages

Scalability – Our Solution for Enterprise Archiving can manage terabytes to petabytes of archival, persistent data for safe, secure, long-term storage and retrieval. It provides a file system interface and a relational database component that respectively supports billions of application files and relational rows.
Survivability – Our Solution prevents technology obsolescence by accepting new storage devices and media types dynamically as they become available. Information on today’s archiving systems will remain retrievable and maintainable with tomorrow’s improved technology.
Accessibility – Efficient retrieval of requested data from any storage layer applies equally to a few large files or to billions of small files. No other solution can meet this requirement and maintain such high performance levels.
Affordability – By closely aligning the cost of storage with the value of data, the solution provides a low-cost solution that enables implementation of large Projects previously considered cost-prohibitive.

Email Archiving
In today’s corporate world Email holds a company's critical information. For the vast majority of organisations, e-mail is a key record of communication in business

transactions flowing in, out of and within the company. Research groups suggest that e-mail usage is growing in excess of 40% per annum, as well as the fact that typically +60% of business critical information is stored in e-mail systems.
Although e-mail is a valuable technology, the problem facing many organizations is that this explosion of e-mails is resulting in a management dilemma. On the one hand, costs are trying to be contained by reducing the number of e-mails stored, whereas on the other hand, regulatory compliance is forcing many organizations to retain many of the e-mails sent/received.
In addition, to keep disk storage and management down to acceptable levels, most user mailboxes have a quota, and with many attachments running into several Mbytes this quota is soon reached. To overcome this limitation, people create PST's (Personal Storage Files) on their workstation (or they spend unproductive time on trying to manage their inbox). This brings with it several other more severe problems and risk for the organization.

Ironically, the major obstacles to achieving these objectives are in fact the technical boundaries inherent in today’s outpaced Email systems, which were never designed to accommodate these large volumes of data for such extended periods. With a majority of business users relying on email more than the telephone when it comes to business communications, an ever-increasing amount of critical information is passing through the company's email system. IT administrators are wasting several hours a week on Email Administration, failures and recovering old messages for end users who cannot recover the information on their own.
Most importantly businesses are realizing that they need to show that the content of Email systems is organized and easily accessible, to avoid risk and comply with regulatory requirements. This includes taking control of the intellectual property contained in Email systems and removing the use of PST files in the business environment.

ParsTasmim in Partnership with Zantaz provides EAS as an intelligent storage management solution for Microsoft Exchange. According to policies that reflect your business, practical and legal needs, EAS will automatically migrate Emails (and optionally Public Folders, Instant Messages, Calendars, Tasks and Notes) from Exchange into a separate and controlled storage area on your network.
Once archived, the emails and their attachments remain seamlessly accessible to the end users via shortcuts in Outlook or by using powerful, Outlook-integrated search functionality.

All the while the intellectual Capital contained in Email is kept secure and all regulatory requirements and internal eCommunications policies are adhered to without reliance on user ability or integrity.

EAS Architecture

EAS has a unique open and Web Centric Architecture to overcome all the performance and storage issues usually associated with the managing huge amounts of information over long periods of time.
The web-based technology provides an easily tuned and highly scalable service for querying and retrieving archived items for users. It is also important to note that no EAS or Exchange Server process plays a part in the retrieval of users archived information, thus avoiding any bottlenecks or lack of resilience due to a single point of failure.

From a legal perspective the EAS Document Store is designed to maintain the highest levels of integrity. Users have read-only access on retrieval and cannot alter or delete archived content. Only the EAS Server process can add content to the archive.
Using the power of the EAS formula language, no other solution offers as much control over what gets archived, when archived items are actually removed from the system and how archived emails are presented back to the end user.
EAS has also been proven to use less than half the storage space of that used by its nearest competitor, thus reducing storage costs and backup times considerably over the years.
The EAS storage technology includes TRUE Single-Instance-Storage and compression across the enterprise.
In summary, a system that:
1. Meets all the legislative and duty of care requirements
2. A secure yet accessible archive of all emails for as long as needed
3. Fast and efficient daily archiving of journals and emails
4. A more efficient and resilient email system for users
5. Fast searching of emails
EAS offers an exceptional Return on Investment in both the Business and technical arenas of the modern corporate.
